The advantages of German Citizenship

Unrestricted right to vote
With naturalization, you receive all the rights of a German citizen, including the unrestricted right to vote. You can take part in all elections at local, national and EU level and thus actively help shape the future. In addition, you enjoy all the freedoms and protective rights of an EU citizen, such as freedom of movement within the EU.

Secure residence status and planning security
As a German citizen, you cannot be deported - your residence permit is secure and permanent. In addition, naturalization makes it easier to access loans and offers you long-term planning security for your personal and professional future.

Unrestricted freedom of travel
German citizens are allowed to travel without restrictions and without official permits. They can stay abroad for as long as they want and even emigrate worldwide without restrictions from the immigration authorities.

Professional freedom and independence
Whether you want to work in Germany or start a business, all career options are open to you. You can also take full advantage of international job opportunities.

Facilitated family reunification
Your naturalization also makes it much easier for your family to join you. In the future, it will be easier for your relatives to come to Germany and live with you permanently.

The new Law for the Naturalization 2024

Introduction of Dual Citizenship

The previous regulation that required individuals to renounce their home country citizenship (§ 10 Abs. 4 StAG) has been abolished.

In the future, individuals will be able to acquire German citizenship without having to give up their original nationality.

Reduction of Residency Requirement for Naturalization

The minimum residency requirement in Germany will be reduced from 8 to 5 years, and in special cases to 3 years, in order to facilitate access to German citizenship and help address the skilled labor shortage.

Faster Naturalization for Special Achievements

Individuals who demonstrate outstanding integration achievements (e.g., volunteer work, above-average academic or professional accomplishments, proof of German language skills at C1 level) can be naturalized after just 3 years.

Interesting facts

  • There are certain exceptions to the requirement to provide proof of language skills when naturalizing. Children under 16 do not need to provide proof of language skills. Anyone who has obtained a German school or university degree does not need to provide proof either. In addition, proof of language skills can be waived if there are health reasons that must be confirmed by a medical report. People who came to Germany as guest workers as part of the recruitment agreements are also exempt from the requirement to provide proof of language skills. Finally, people over 60 who have lived legally in Germany for at least 12 years do not need proof of language skills.

  • The naturalization test is part of the process of obtaining German citizenship. It is designed to check whether applicants have basic knowledge of German law, society, history and culture. Here are the most important points:

    1. Content: The test consists of 33 questions, 17 of which must be answered correctly to pass. The questions cover various topics, including the German constitution, history, geography and the rights and duties of citizens.

    2. Target group: The test is aimed at people who are applying for German citizenship and are usually between 16 and 60 years old. For people who have lived in Germany for at least 8 years before naturalization, the test may not be necessary.

    3. Preparation: There are various materials and courses specifically designed to prepare for the naturalization test. These include textbooks, online courses, and information sessions offered by adult education centers or other educational institutions.

    4. Implementation: The test is usually carried out in a test center. After successfully passing the test, applicants receive a certificate that they must present upon naturalization.

The naturalization test is an important step to ensure that future citizens have a basic understanding of Germany and its values.

  • The authorities are legally obliged to decide within three months. In order to help you obtain German citizenship, we first try to reach an agreement out of court. First, we write a letter in which we point out the legal deadline and reiterate that the requirements are met in order to achieve faster processing. If this does not lead to a timely solution, there is the option of filing an action for failure to act. This legal measure forces the authority to act within a certain time frame and can help to move your case forward.
